Friday, 16th August 2019 the tiny MOTH Club in Hackney London witnessed the most unusual secret gig. Dave Grohl (vocal, guitar), Rami Jaffee (keyboard) and Rick Astley (drums, vocal) Rickrolled London just before American rockers started their UK – NI Tour in Glasgow.
The 150-capacity venue in Hackney filled up quickly with lucky fans, who manage to secured £5.50 tickets to Club NME reopening with a secret guest. The rumour has it, that was Dave Grohl along with his bandmates, scheduled to play that night.
Around 9.30 pm, just after Saint Leonards‘ left the stage, the secret guests made their way through the crowd. It was, in fact, Dave Grohl and his friend and bandmate Rami Jaffee.
The duo started with Big Me and a little story about Dave’s connections to NME. But this wasn’t the end of surprises that night. For Times Like These (another Foo Fighters‘ hit) the stage climbed another special guest – Rick Astley, who took over the drums.
The trio went on into Never Gonna Give You Up with a change on vocals (Rick) and drums (Dave). Finishing with Everlong and Best Of You the supergroup left the venue full of happy, sweaty people who just witnessed the one of a kind gigs.
