Mr Big Shot” is the latest single to be released by rising four piece Kent rock band Collateral. Taken from their eponymous debut album which is due to hit the shelves and online stores on February 21st 2020, the track has already been playlisted by Planet Rock Radio and received it’s first airing by them on release day on the Paul Anthony breakfast show just after 8 a.m.  Collateral_Mr.jpg

The exciting and flamboyant Kent rockers are Angelo Tristan (vocals and guitar), Todd Winger (guitar), Jack Bentley-Smith (bass) and Ben Atkinson (drums). All members of the band bring their own influences, which range from country to southern rock and then 80’s rock to metal and this is clearly evident in their song writing.

The last 12 months have been phenomenal for Collateral. Starting off with a sensational performance at the 2018 Hard Rock Hell Awards show, they then played to a rammed Leo’s Red Lion in Gravesend on their “4 Shots EP” launch. They have topped the Australian Radio charts, played Camden Rocks after they won a competition out of 20,000 bands to play the main stage at the Electric Ballroom on June 1 In July, they won a competition between 40 bands at the Ramblin’ Man Rumble to play the Rising Stage at the 2019 Ramblin’ Man Fair, but without doubt, one of their most exciting achievements was when they won a competition out of 200,000 entrants to support Jon Bon Jovi on his Runaway to Paradise Mediterranean Cruise departing Barcelona to Majorca on August 26th.   Collateral-2.jpg

The band will be hoping that the release of “Mr Big Shot” will keep that momentum going until their debut album is released early next year.

Talking of the album which “Mr Big Shot” is from, frontman Angelo Tristan says “We wanted to stay away from the normal rules that apply to what you can and cannot put on an album. The album contains all of our inspirations, and nothing’s has been diluted. The album is comprised of nine songs – all killer and no filler. The recording of this album was an amazing experience from the get-go. To finally see this record come to life was remarkable. I hope the fans will share the same excitement we had when we made the album. Buckle up. We’re in for one helluva ride!”

So what of “Mr Big Shot” itself then. Angelo describes it as “One of those songs that really grew into something it was never intended to be. What started out as something that was supposed to mock the way we see ourselves; ended up being such a heavy gritty song that really held its own when it came to narrowing stuff down to go on the album. Mr Big Shot started out as a bit of an inside joke, because that’s what people assume you think of yourself when you’re in a band. But we took that vibe, turned it into something fun, charming and full of innuendos.

For me it is a big song, with a big bombastic sound to it. I have lived and loved the “4 Shots” EP since it was released and one thing that is clearly evident on this track is that the band have developed since that EP came out. From the moment the drums and guitars come bursting out of the speakers, there is a much beefier sound to it than the tracks on the EP. Harder and heavier it may be but it has been achieved without losing the melody and harmony the band have garnered their rapidly growing reputation on.

Wingers guitar sizzles and scorches it’s way through three and a half minutes of hard rock heaven and the rhythm section of Atkinson and Bentley-Smith give the song a really meaty gritty vibe that subconsciously forces you to tap your feet.  This is a blisteringly hot number full of catchy lyrics, sublime harmonies and beautiful melodies which is a big fan favourite during the bands live sets and should be a big hit for them. Angelo Tristan’s voice is just so suited to this harder edged Collateral and the enjoyment the band had recording the track and album comes over clearly in his vocals.

This track alone should open them up too many more new fans and give them a great opportunity to make that all important debut album a resounding success. The world needs upbeat, happy, fun tunes like this at the moment to let people forget about the woes of the country and the world, even if just for a few minutes. “Mr Big Shot” in my humble opinion is going to give them every chance of really making something out of their Big Shot!.

The album will be released on Roulette Media Records and distributed worldwide through Cargo and is available for pre-order now from www.collateralofficial.com. If you pre-order the album from the bands website, you will automatically get a free MP3 download of “Lullaby: Live At The Blackheart – recorded in  Camden Town, London on February 7th, 2019,  featuring an introduction from Planet Rock’s Breakfast Show presenter Paul Anthony. Collateral-Album.jpg
