There was much of a buzz on social media about tonight’s performance from Fleshgod Apocalypse and I for one was looking forward to seeing this band play live. Being familiar with their brand of music and their image/style, I was keen to see the band in the flesh, so to speak and they did not disappoint!
First on the bill from Portsmouth, Hampshire were Bloodshot Dawn. This 4-piece band wasted no time in kick-starting the evening with their first number.
They played a variety of songs which really displayed the band’s talent and their effortless performance was both captivating and highly enjoyable.
The assembled crowd, the real barometer of the evening, showed their appreciation and I’m no Nostradamus, but I think we’ll be seeing Bloodshot Dawn back in Scotland soon!
‘What We Do in The Shadows’
Fleshgod Apocalypse are an extremely visual band. Their sense of stage-style is a throwback to the 18th Century. In fact, the band looked like they had just walked off the set from the film’ What We Do in The Shadows’.
One could also picture them springing from the pages of a Dicken’s novel and their stage outfits are especially detailed and refined. The Italian band have mastered the art of ‘Symphonic Death Metal’; the marriage of Opera and Metal is an unlikely one on paper, but the ears and heart can’t deny the marriage is a fruitful one.
The beautifully haunting operatic vocals were clear and pronounced and lifted the performance. Unfortunately, the piano was a little lost though, which was a shame. The lighting was atmospheric and gave this show a real sense of theatrical sensibility.
Fleshgod’s Apocalypse’s latest album ‘Veleno’, released on May 24th (my birthday) on Nuclear Blast, is the pinnacle of the band’s work. Please go and check it out!
