Following their critically acclaimed single Hoedown Showdown, Bootyard Bandits return with a brand new EP “The Very Best of Bootyard Bandits”, which is released on 17th April

The five piece country rock band from Worcester already have plenty of live experience to their name having toured Europe with a 20-date tour supporting  pirate Metallers Alestorm and the UK as special guest to Massive Wagons.

The EP brings together all five of the bands singles to date and opens with the hilariously titled ‘Shirt Potatoes’ which is slice of heavy country rock full of grinding guitars which sees the band extoling the virtues of the local cowgirl, but although these boys don’t take themselves seriously, don’t underestimate their playing ability. As is often the case with bands that take a less than serious view of the music industry, they blast out a big quality sound.

Next up is ‘Hoedown Showdown’ with it’s thumping country beat courtesy of the man on the drums, Bamm-Bamm and again plenty of heavy guitar work . If you get a chance, catch the Lego inspired video on YouTube which is the work of genius. The x-rated ‘Country Music’ is another slab of heavy rock infused country, sung with tongue planted firmly in cheek. Splitting the word ‘country’ in two at just the right time throughout the song, ensures this will never get played on BBC Radio 2, but you get the impression that these boys really don’t care for playing by the rules.

‘One Hell Of A Night’ switches the focus to another favourite cowboy pastime – drinking. The track contains plenty of chanting and I can see their live audience punching the air after a few Jack Daniels. This is a real foot tapper and if you want to liven up the village hall annual line dance, give it a spin, but at your own peril!

For the final track we are back to the more risque lyrics as C J Handsome takes us through ‘Ladies Man’, as he tells us “I’ll rock your girlfriend, I’ll rock your mum, put him in a dress and  I’ll rock your Son…... The lyrics are well written and great fun with a decent guitar solo thrown in for good measure.

This isn’t an EP you would probably buy for your Granny but this is rock ‘ roll with a twinkle in it’s eye and a foul mouth – so what’s not to like!  It’s fun and light hearted and is definitely what we need during these difficult times.

The Very Best Of Bootyard Bandits is released on April 17th  2020.
