Fiber of our Being’, the first single and title track from UK Symphonic Power Metal act Damnation Angels’ upcoming album (released on 31st July 2020) is a delicious slab of mid-tempo Symphonic Metal, with a big emphasis on melody.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GByKwBpgNg&w=560&h=315]It contains all the elements you’d expect in this kinda thing, with well-written and arranged orchestral keyboards and chugging guitars gelling perfectly in the mix.
The production on this is really good and works for the song throughout, e.g. there are those moments of frenetic double kick-drum that this stuff just has to have, but they are used sparingly and this works really well to add interest to the track without overpowering the melodies.
The lead vocals are particularly tasty, with singer Ignacio Rodriguez opting for a lower range to the melodies in the verses before kicking it up in the highly infectious choruses. The key change after the guitar solo pushes the vocal range even further and lifts the track as it hurtles to its conclusion – simple, but very effective.
This is a really excellent track with which to introduce the new album and on that basis alone, the ‘Fiber of our Being’ album will be well worth checking out when it’s released in July.
