King King is one of the brightest lights in the contemporary blues scene and Alan Nimmo one of the most recognisable front men. When he walks out on stage in his kilt, boots and looking like a man mountain, you know he means business and when he plays that guitar, you just have to listen.
The band have won numerous awards and legions of fans since forming in 2008, through relentless touring and the release of 4 studio albums, a live album and 2 EP’s.
Formed 12 years ago, there have been multiple line up changes, culminating in the departure last year of bassist and founding member Lindsay Coulson, leaving Alan as the sole original member and earlier this year the announcement that Stevie Nimmo, Allan’s brother, would be joining the band. Stevie had contributed to the new album ‘Maverick’ that is due to drop in October 2020 and was one half of The Nimmo Brothers with Alan, prior to King King.
Never Give In’ is the second single release from the album and one of the earliest recordings the new line up completed and let’s not mess about here, it’s an absolute belter of a track. It continues the band’s move towards a heavier blues rock sound that began with their 2017 release “Exile & Grace”.
Opening with big guitars, reminiscent of BBM’s ‘Waiting In The Wings’, Jonny Dyke’s Hammond organ soon kicks in, lifting the entire track and you can hear a band that are all pulling together to make the best music they possibly can – and nailing it. Andrew Scott’s drums drives everything along and what you have is a superb classic blues rock track from a band that sound re-energised with the new line up.
‘Never Give In’ was released on 30 July 2020
