Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM
Break out your best sippin’ whiskey, Mike Ross is back and serves up this irresistible slice of Southern Fried goodness.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOCYlRvJIJk&w=560&h=315]
Blues and good old boogie come out at you like a hungry gator from the swamps, snapping at your heels before the song gives way to a cool as a mint julip solo that turns the weather from steaming hot to a gentle delta breeze that pinwheels across the sky before getting back into its wicked ways again.
Taking a leaf from Skynyrd but adding an exotic waft of the psychedelic, Ross creates this genius brew that is perfect Summer day listening.
The Clovis Limit Pt.2’ lives up to Mojo Magazine’s review of Mike’s work as “Fuzzed up, fierce and full frontal fiery attack coupled with sexy, smooth slidin’, southern soul!” and Planet Rock Magazine’s equally-on point praise of “Hypnotic Blues that revel in dark menace.” ‘The Clovis Limit Pt.2’ (CD & Digital) is out Friday 30th October on Taller Records via Proper Distribution
