Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM
Hewn from ‘Satellites’, arguably the best album released this year, Tom Englund (Evergrey/Redemption) and Vickram Shankar (Redemption) bring us this glorious slice of reimagined 1980’s techno pop balladry under their Silent Skies side project.
Originally released by the Eurythmics, they’ve managed to turn an undoubtedly great track into something with an incandescent yet fragile beauty that puts the source recording very much into the shade.
Suffused with an edge of pain in Englund’s majestic vocals and the exquisite piano work of Shankar equally breathtaking and delicately soulful, here is something that will stop you in your tracks.
Passionate and pensive but never maudlin, there is a promise in here for better days coming and that’s all we could hope for and need right now.
