American rock legends Of Mice and Men (OM&M) have recently revealed their new signed record deal with SharpTone Records, celebrating this achievement they’ve released their first song ‘Obsolete’ off their forthcoming E.P ‘Timeless’
Of MiceAnd Men started their journey in 2009 originating from Costa Mesa, California, consisting of Aaron Pauley on vocals and bass, Phil Manansala and Alan Ashby on guitars and Valentino Arteaga on drums.
The band have released some excellent albums like ‘The Flood’ (2011), ‘Cold World’ (2016) and Defy (2018). Their genre has slightly changed throughout the years, starting off as metalcore/post hard-core, then gradually developing towards a more melodic, nu/alternative metal vibe.
When I saw this added to my folder I did get squeaky excited! I am a huge fan and my passion for this band definitely grew more when they released ‘Earth And Sky’ in 2019. Pauley has undoubtedly taken the band to a newer fresher height.
Arrggghhhh!! Time for me to strip this single apart, in the best ways of course.
I am getting all the feels instantly, I am not dissatisfied in the slightest, and there is no need to doodle around with long intros. I became drawn in with a simple but very effective riff, some nice tones that lead me to rigid sharp vocals, the delivery is heavy, raw and Pauley’s pace is to be admired.
On the surface the track doesn’t feel that heavy, especially when the clean singing kicks in, but open your ears baby, because it really is meaty heavy!
I felt some real depth to the musicianship and as a whole, the more I listened, the more layers I heard.
There are some real chunky tones and riffs coming from the guitars, adding to that, a brutal bass that’s directly aligned with the intelligent drums, absolutely mate! I feel exposed but I am welcoming to their melodic elements, I feel absolutely liberated!
Without a doubt, reflection being key right now, Of Mice And Men’s materials are well and truly cemented and I cannot wait to hear their forthcoming E.P.
