Ricky Warwick has Rock n Roll running through his veins, with each step in his career becoming legendary from his time in The New Model Army, The Almighty, through to Thin Lizzy and latterly The Black Star Riders.
His solo career which kicked off in 2002 however, hasn’t had any exposure since 2016’s double album release `When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang the Blues) / Hearts on Trees’ until now.
Warwick has surrounded himself with a raft of special guests including Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, Andy Taylor formerly of Duran Duran, Thunder’s Luke Morley, Dizzy Reed of the mighty Guns ‘N Roses and even Ricky’s daughter Pepper to make a new eleven track album.
The title track and first single to be released ‘When Life Was Hard And Fast’ features Joe Elliott on backing vocals.
Duelling guitars, intense tight drum beats, high energy and that vocal tone that is oh so close to that of the late Phil Lynott’s takes us back to the 80’s where Rock was a no-nonsense affair without effects, bells and whistles.
Instead, we have a beautifully crafted song with lyrics that tell a story from a thorough bred of the genre. If this is a hint of what the rest of album holds then Lizzy fans are going to love it!
There is also an accompanying video, which depicts the County Down Ards TT Motor Race that is seen on the album’s cover and ran from 1928-1936.
The cover shows an accident from one of the races that happened directly in front of a field that was part of a farm owned by Warwick’s grandfather, where Warwicklived for the first 14 years of his life.
