Alice Cooper is most definitely a man, no, a legend that should need no introduction.

With a career that spans over 50 years now, he has entertained us with nearly 40 albums and a plethora of some of the greatest rock songs of all time, including I’m Eighteen, Under My Wheels, Schools Out, Elected, No More Mr Nice Guy, Poison and many many more.

‘Social Debris’ is his latest offering and quite easily fits in with the celebrated and illustrious back catalogue that has gone before it. Taken from his new album ‘Detroit Stories’ which is due to be released on earMUSIC on the 26th February, it was shared to the world on the 4th February 2021, the eminent singers 73rd birthday no less, as a birthday present to himself.

For that day and that day only it was available as a free download to anybody that saw his post on social media.

I have given this single a few spins now so to speak and I can pay in no greater compliment than to say it could easily have been written in the 1970’s when the band were young, fresh and had the world at their feet.

To think that this is now some 50 years on and the band have not worked together for many a year, it is just a stunning and unexpected return to a bygone time.

It has the sound and the feel of the classic Alice Cooper Band in its prime and you could easily be forgiven for thinking that this is a track you have somehow missed over the years, rather than something new that is yet to be properly released.

From the opening guitar and drum salvo, ‘Social Debris’ has a real infectious quality to it. There is something quite unique in the sound that the Alice Cooper Band generate together and this track has it in abundance.

Alice sings with a grit and snarly attitude that belies his age throughout a track that is full of well crafted and superbly executed hooks, melodies and his famed lyricism.

After hearing this, I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album. I have a sneaky feeling that it will be filed alongside those classic Alice albums, ‘Love It To Death’, ‘Killer’, ‘Schools Out’ and ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ like a natural successor.

‘Detroit Stories’,  the 27th studio album in Alice’s glittering career, is described as a celebration of the sound and spirit of the golden era of Detroit rock and is available to order now.

It will be available on CD, CD&DVD Digipack, 2Lp gatefold sleeve vinyl and as a CD box set that includes a CD, Blu-Ray, T-Shirt, face mask, torch light and 3 stickers.
