Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM
The 1970’s may be a time of three day weeks, strikes, blackouts, dodgy clothes and even dodgier comedy shows but it also had some of the best music written in the last century.
With his latest release from the forthcoming ‘Shades of Gray’ album, the unstoppable Myke Gray has captured that perfect 70’s Glam Rock vibe in a three minute ball of glitter and hard rocking fun.
Making it physically impossible not to smile and dance, ‘Wham Bam’ hits the ground running, leaving fiery scorch marks, the like of which have not been seen since Marty McFly took the DeLorean for a spin…and we know that’s mixing our decades up but you get the idea.
It’s a brilliant tribute to when songs were the thing that got us through dark days, the family huddled together around the television on Thursday nights waiting for Top of the Pops to come on.
Great music cheered us all up, uniting the nation with it’s seemingly effortless escapism that had a platinum core of superb craftsmanship, brilliant writing, playing and showmanship.
Now, when we need it the most, the feel good times have returned and Myke Gray is our own Sweet and Slade rolled into one. Prepare to clap your hands and stomp your feet. The party is here.
