Adrian Smith and Richie Kotzen have always been highly respected and world class musicians so this collaboration between the Iron Maiden six stringer and Winery Dogs frontman was always going to be good. Nothing could have warned us just how good though.
Whilst a lot of all-star projects seem the bringing together of giant egos for purely commercial reasons, this particularly pairing feels a lot more natural and honest, the two complimenting and not competing with each other.
A prime slice of classy blues rock, ‘Scars’ sees both men displaying both their fine voices and some truly magnetic guitar playing, taking it in turns to come up to bat and hitting it out of the park each and every time.
Judging by the quality of what we’ve heard so far, it looks like the combo of Smith / Kotzen might run and run, the two men finding the perfect partnership outside of their day jobs. Here’s to the future.
