Review by Tammy Lomax for MPM
I have been unable to feel my face for days because of the continuous smile, I have only one word, Gojira!
Now, I am more than sure most metallers are aware of who Gojira is and if you don’t, I would recommend you check them out, they are very talented, Gojira should be a genre of metal.
The band come from Ondres, France and formed in 1996, Godzilla is a translation of the Japanese word Gojira and the band were known as Godzilla until 2001. Gojira is Joe Duplantier, Mario Duplantier, Christian Andreu, and Jean-Michel Labadie.
Their upcoming album ‘Fortitude’ will be released on 30/04/2021, previously to this the band have released some outstanding albums, ‘Magma’ being one of them which was released five years ago and ‘From Mars To Sirius’ which makes my full on metal face come out every time!
I, as well as many others, have been waiting for the band to pop back up and the wait is almost over. Gojira are back with a wallop and so far have packed and unleashed some fresh flavours in the bag, it’s a very exciting time.
‘Another World’ and ‘Born For One Thing’ were the first singles to be released from ‘Fortitude’ and are small contributions, preparing us for the album.
They are also donating all the proceeds from their most recent single release ‘Amazonia’ to raise money for the Articulation Of Indigenous Peoples Of Brazil, including items being auctioned such as Joe Duplantier’s hand engraved signed guitar, a hand engraved bass from Metallica’s legend Rob Trujillo, items from Slayer and many more!…
As a charity event organiser myself, I see the true value of making a difference, big or small, a difference is a difference and I agree with their message entirely.
‘Amazonia’ is a quirky track and it’s captivating from the get go. The groovy wavy vibes and distortions just bewilder me and definitely retain my attention. Mario Duplantier’s feet must be just muscle, I mean he is a marvelous drummer and his drums on this track are as creative, nuanced and punishing as anything I have heard from him.
I don’t think I can do the track justice, I can only insist that you have a listen, this is fresh modern metal and everything it represents is just simply, beautiful.
