Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM
The continuing upward trajectory of Jinjer moves ever faster, an unstoppable force that will see the band reaching festival headline status shortly.
To be honest, it’s amazing that they’re not already there as the Ukranian quartet possess both the material and musicianship to reach those lofty heights.
Much has been written about the extraordinary vocals of Tatiana Shmailyuk, her ability to go from the sweetest, most melodic tones to something that would scare the life out of a veteran Marine Drill Sergeant but it’s the combination of all four members that bring the magic.
The second single from the forthcoming ‘Wallflowers’ album, ‘Mediator’ distils all that’s caught the imagination of metalheads all over the globe.
From the frantic System of a Down style mania at the opening, Shmailyuk’s smoothly seductive and honeyed delivery through to the unleashing of the beast as they tear into the song with a force and visceral power that can flay flesh off bone, this is irrepressible slice of modern metal.
All the elements are in place, a perfect storm of influences that are uniquely Jinjer and sees the ever-evolving band reach new heights of force and a power that could tilt the world on its axis.
Given the strength of the two singles released so far, ‘Wallflowers’ may well be the breakthrough of Metallica’s ‘The Black Album’ levels and see the band become the global titans they were always destined to be. Crushingly heavy, intelligent, uplifting and full of a spark brighter than a thousand suns, you need to hear ‘Mediator’ today.
