Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM
No-one plays or sings the blues quite like Joanne Shaw-Taylor, the Midlands born phenomenon seemingly destined to write her name in mile high letters in the books of music history.
Whilst her work to this point in her career has been nothing less than dazzling, her teaming up with Joe Bonamassa has taken things to entirely different plain altogether. In a match that is truly sublime, it seems as though the New York born Modern King of the Blues has an almost supernatural knack of bringing out the very best in all those he works with and this pairing knocks things totally out of the park.
In a track that harks back to some of the very finest material that Atlantic Records released at their height, the extraordinary, soul drenched vocals of Shaw Taylor shine brighter than a thousand suns. Matched with this, her quicksilver fretwork bleeds class and a style that seems to put more spirit into one solo than some artists manage in a lifetime, an absolutely killer combination.
One of the biggest talents in this, or any other, genre, Joanne Shaw-Taylor IS the Blues and heir apparent to all the great British artists who have gone before.
