Review by Andy Hawes for MPM

Finnish symphonic power metal band Battle Beast have just unleashed ‘Master of Illusion’, the first single from their upcoming album Circus of Doom.

‘Master of Illusion’ is an absolutely cracking tune! Combining layers of keyboards, symphonic orchestration, vocal choirs, highly melodic guitar work and awe-inspiring lead vocals, it is the ideal introduction to the upcoming album.

To these ears, the track combines all the best elements of Symphonic Rock, Melodic Metal and even AOR/Pop-Rock. The lyric tells a dark tale of a pretty nasty and destructive character, but does so with infuriatingly catchy melodies and it works brilliantly.

Rocking along with sweeping, majestic power, ‘Master of Illusion’ is an adrenalin-fuelled rocket-ride with a saccharine-sweet melodic sugar-coating. Opening with beautiful (almost AOR) keyboards and a melodic guitar refrain, the track explodes into life with a classic Symphonic Rock guitar riff and orchestration and a monumental scream from vocalist Noorah Louhimo who stamps her very considerable authority on the track from the get-go.

Her vocal performance on this track is nothing short of apocalyptic, with an awesome grasp of power and melody throughout.

You know you’re onto a winner when, as soon as you’ve played a track through once, you just HAVE to play it over again and again and that’s exactly what happens here. ‘Master of Illusion’ really is the sort of track that is both instantly catchy and has the potential to have real longevity.

‘Master of Illusion’ is an excellent single and a brilliant taster for the Circus of Doom album which is released on 21st January 2022.
