In The Absence of God” … what a fitting title.

Enter the intro of twirling smoke, fire, skull faced figures and horses to build the anticipation of what Behemoth are about to unleash…

We’ve been living in sad times… and navigating through these times for all Artists alike has been both challenging and presented an opportunity to try something from a different angle… And in ‘In Absentia Dei’, Behemoth have of course delivered a powerful and artistic experience.

Originally streamed in September 2020, the nearly two hour grand production is set in a crumbling abandoned church in Poland adorned with exceptional lighting and pyrotechnics to highlight the visuals to the extensive live set that Behemoth glide through from track to track.

The riveting live set itself is flawless, with no interruption and what seems as effortless, transitioning into each song. Behemoth fans will be pleased to know that variety of 10 albums over the last two decades are brought into the fold of this experience, with rare sights included.

From The Pagan Vastlands, Satan’s Sword I Have Become, Ov Fire and Void are just a few of the offerings on show and with the fitting finale as one of my very favourites – O Father O Satan O Sun!

The mesmerising and atmospheric aura to the performance of In Absentia Dei enforces the connection Behemoth fans have to Nergal and co.

This is a game changer as far as live streams go and Behemoth have pulled out all the stops to deliver something truly immersive and thrilling to their fans. Having to bump myself back down to reality – back into the room after being lured into a path of pure fury and ever changing moods.

I find that much of Black and Death Metal music has the theme of absolutely thrashing your senses with different layers of power and moods and my attention will always be with that experience in any kind of music.

Behemoth remain one of my favourite examples of this as they continue to deliver the fix needed to lose yourself in something that touches your core and takes you on a journey to explore the limits of that power.
