Blackened Rose is a new band that has recently released their first single, “Ginger Red (Oh, So Bad)”. The song is a blend of old-school hard rock and gothic elements, featuring catchy riffs, powerful vocals and Hammond organ sounds reminiscent of bands like Deep Purple and Whitesnake.

Aleksei Iagunkov, the band’s vocalist, shared some insights on the creation of the song and the band’s approach to their music.

According to Aleksei, “Ginger Red” was originally written before the creation of the band, inspired by Airborne’s “Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast” and “Blonde, Bad and Beautiful”.

«Well, the entire idea behind the lyrics of “Ginger Red” was technically a joke. It was a joke about a girl whom I and Naomi Campbell [keyboards] knew, and who had quite outstanding red hair. And, I guess, she almost dated me.

The lyrics depict the clothes that the girl was wearing on the night when I first met her, along with a few easter eggs for listeners to figure out, as well as a little shoutout to the mighty AC/DC themselves!»

“Ginger Red” is the song that brought the band together, so it was a natural choice for their first release: «This was the song that, in a way, brought all of us together as musicians. Therefore, thought it would only be natural for it to be the first song we released. It is definitely one of our more upbeat tracks and should provide a good balance to some of the sadder, more gothic songs that we will release later on.»

Aleksei also shared his thoughts on the band’s style, which mixes old-school hard rock with vocals in the style of Ville Valo, the former HIM vocalist. He believes that this unique blend will appeal to both old hard rock fans and gothic lovers: «I personally know quite a few people who like this old-school, upbeat hard rock. Mixing it with vocals in the style of Ville Valo (ex-HIM), who is also a well-known vocalist, should provide a unique blend that appeals to both old hard rock fans and gothic lovers. And, of course, remember that more is to come!»

Overall, Blackened Rose’s “Ginger Red (Oh, So Bad)” is a promising debut that showcases the band’s blend of classic rock and gothic elements. With more music to come, it will be interesting to see where this new band goes from here.
