Review by Tammy Lomax for MPM
A three way collaboration of some real muscular metal is due to be released on the 7th April from Fit For An Autopsy, Thy Art Is Murder and Malevolence.
The Aggression Sessions is the follow-up from the three-way split E.P, The Depression Sessions.
The Depression Sessions features Fit For An Autopsy, Thy Art Is Murder and The Acacia Strain.
A lifelong friendship was concreted between Fit For An Autopsy and Thy Art Is Murder before the completion of their first session E.P.
The Aggression Sessions concept was born immediately after The Depression Sessions; this has taken some years to record and release due to hectic band schedules.
Released via Nuclear Blast Records, the artwork was created by renowned artist Eliran Kantor and this E.P is an explosive treat for metal fans.
In total there are 6 tracks, that’s 23 minutes of utter skull-battering heavy music, it is vastly punishing and not for the faint hearted.
Fit For An Autopsy tracks are “Hellions” and a cover track, “Under A Serpent Sun” from At The Gates.
“Hellions” is sheer savagery, what a massive clout in the face. Fit For An Autopsy explained it was fun to look back at some of their more brutal and fast-paced roots.
This year marks the 10th year anniversary of the album Hellbound. Collectively they agree this was the marker album that really started things in motion for them.
They had a blast channeling the energy and excitement for their music this year and mentioned it’s only natural for bands to evolve and expand their sound over time. Fit For An Autopsy will never forget where they came from and this track is for those who were there from day one.
Their take on “Under A Serpent Sun” is completely crucifying in a Fit For An Autopsy style. It’s so far up my street it’s knocking on my door and asking me to come out and play, yes, yes I will. This is true death metal at heart and it’s beautifully designed to shred every single cell in your body.
The guitars lead the music and the sound balance is consistent with a murderous modern edge, its crisp and full of girth.
Thy Art Is Murder tracks are “Until There Is No Longer” and a Cannibal Corpse cover, “Hammer Smashed Face”
“Until There Is No Longer” will certainly blow the cobwebs away. It’s pure evil. The vocals are deep, gnarly and the energy is completely bursting.
“Hammer Smashed Face” is a sure delight. I have always been a huge fan of Cannibal Corpse, they are the alpha’s in death metal and Thy Art Is Murder do a mighty fine job with this cover.
Malevolence tracks are “Waste Of Myself” and an Anastasia cover, “Left Outside Alone”
“Waste Of Myself” makes me squeak, they have taken their music sound to another level but it’s still grounded with their attacking style, it’s riffing extreme. Those time signature moves are on fire and projected with ease. It’s assaulting from every single angle. Battering drums, guitars are popping out the riffs like no tomorrow and the vocals are pure filth.
“Left Outside Alone” totally mind boggled me in the most positive way. They have taken one of the most well known pop songs, twisted and molded it into a bulking metal monster. Phew.
Full of serious attitude and as always, zero limitations to what they can craft musically.
What a blinding release, what an absolute belter. I applaud the concept and delivery of this session, it’s so heavy and the energy throughout is off the scale.
