Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM
Sporting one of the coolest names of the year, hewn from the famous quote from one of the coolest films of 1988, All Out Of Bubblegum bring this monstrously good debut into pulsing, fire breathing life.
Despite having only formed recently, if ‘Skinned Alive’ is anything to go by, AAOB will be taking over the world soon, its glorious blend of Punk, New Wave, Hard Rock and Electronica impossible to resist.
Full of fury and verve, they sound like what would happen if you locked Guns n’ Roses, David Bowie, KISS and The Stranglers in the studio with just enough food and water for two days.
Spiky, driving and yet with the huge urgent hook of the chorus, singer Fa Caudwell’s voice drips with venom and threat as he spits of each line, the guitar, bass, keys and drums a wild locomotive behind them.
Irresistible and filled with heart and passion, ‘Skinned Alive’ is an incendiary introduction to the outfit and is sure to kick down a few walls.
