Review by Ritchie Birnie for MPM
Amongst Liars kicks of 2024 with an awesome single in Alibi, a hard hitting slice of modern Rock.
With a name like Amongst Liars there is no surprise on the lyrical content of this powerful track. It is a reflective story around a destructive relationships (can I get a hell yeah if you have been there). It could also touch on mental health issues but the lyrics are so profound this has to be a hard lived life lesson with eroding words like ‘you cant be my inspiration if I can’t see what you have become’.
This song hits home hard as does an end to even the most amicable break up but when another person drags your own self esteem into a pit this is what you should be screaming at your lowest ebb.
The music captures the pain and despair with the scrambled opening followed by the musical equivalent of finding answers to questions that are never forthcoming.
The song is fused with a powerful rhythm section that holds the song together like the threads of a wandering and destroyed mind. The song is given all the emotions by vocalist Ian George who spits the words at you like an enraged demon.
These boys have followed up the two previous singles with aplomb and second album “Desire” is lining up to be a summer blockbuster. The band are full to bursting with massive riffs and some very talented musicians.
Following on from the success of the debut album and some cracking support slots these boys are firmly lodged in the top 10 of bands to watch.
