Review by Emma Brown for MPM
Refusing to be slaves to the machine, it seems the only thing ACCEPT are chained to is the adrenaline-pumping exhilaration of heavy metal. Celebrating human authenticity and appreciating true art and musicianship, ACCEPT’s latest album “Humanoid” gives a modern perspective on how emerging technologies like AI could be harmful to human creativity and individuality.
The track “Diving Into Sin” kick starts this album, giving us an intriguing middle eastern intro before launching into something a little more dark and ominous.
You can tell the quality of this album from this very first song, and with catchy guitar riffs and fantastic vocal tonality, this track will certainly please the most devious part of your brain.
The next song, titled “Humanoid” gives a robot overlord a voice, and tells the story of the desolation and chaos that technology could bring.
Humanoid” adds something entirely different to this album, and is an exciting and well executed blend of unique storytelling and relentless energy.
There is certainly a sense of deep immersion here, as the tracks build the picture of an apocalyptic planet ruled by machines.
Other tracks I loved included track 3, “Frankenstein”, a fast-paced and structurally dynamic track with explosive power, and track 7, “Ravages Of Time” which tells the emotional tale of our fragile human existence, and leaves the listener with the message to live while you can, as we are only on this earth for so long.
ACCEPT certainly do not shy away from sometimes uncomfortable or unorthodox topics, but in this, there is real bravery and honesty.
This album is certainly filled with relentless authenticity and passion, and feels as though there is a real focus on displaying the complexities of being human.
All of this comes with the unwavering support of excellent musicianship from the band, who bring expressive guitars, feisty drums, and melodies that feel like an extension of the soul.
Releasing on the 26th of April, the band’s 17th studio album is sure to impress their longtime supporters, as it stays true to the roots of this genre. However, what is sure to please them more is the intriguing and complex themes that run throughout this album, bringing listeners something fresh, timely and engaging
