Supplying your latest dose of 80’s rock nostalgia, Atlantis Drive’s self titled album, is bringing back iconic synthesised melodies intertwined with shredding guitars and anthemic vocals.
Formed by Markus Pfeffer, best known for his work in Barnabas Sky and Lazarus Dream, Atlantis Drive are starting off their discography with something a little more retro.
From the album cover art, to shimmering guitars and sparkling melodies that flow throughout, this spirited record is sure to attract many fans of electric 80’s rock.
The band is also formed by Mark Boals (Ring Of Fire) on vocals, Markus Kullmann (Sinner/Voodoo Circle) on drums, and Jorris Guilbaud (Devoid) on piano/ synth.
This experienced group of musicians are sure to bring their existing fanbases over to enjoy this new project.
The key themes in this album include nostalgia, having faith in yourself, and learning to appreciate the time we have on this earth. Over these 10 tracks, there is a thoughtful combination of feeling sentimental for the past while also considering the future, and looking towards new beginnings.
Track 3, “Living For The Moment”, perfectly encapsulates these compelling themes in a fresh and lively style, giving listeners bright, melodic synths and anthemic vocals. Following this, track 4, “Brand New Start” is a refreshing acoustic number and shows the versatility that Atlantis Drive are already establishing in their music.
Listeners are also sure to delight in the eight and a half minute finale “Heroes”, which is an ode to the great musicians that are sadly no longer with us. Here, Atlantis Drive are letting us know that they can also be excellent storytellers as well as giving us the thrilling, fast-paced classic rock that stole the spotlight earlier in the album.
Furthermore, the band continually takes little influences such as song structure and instrument timbre from classic 80’s rock, showcasing how this decade gave us the solid foundations for music created today. Additionally, this album boasts some fantastic songwriting, with meaningful lyrics and impressive vocals.
As the band’s first album, the genre and theme certainly set the tone of what is to come. It is clear to see that Atlantis Drive have put a great deal of love and passion into this album, and it is a joy in itself to be able to come along with them for the ride and share in this excitement.
The album releases on the 14th of June, and with fans already lining up on streaming platforms to be there for when it drops, I’m sure this album will be well received and loved by all those who share in the band’s wistful memories from a time when rock music was continuously fresh, exciting and rebellious
