Review by Sheri Bicheno for MPM
As an avid lover of many different elements of metal… Upon giving the new bad boy “Within The Hollow Earth” a listen, it cannot go unnoticed that this new offering from L.A metallers All Hail The Yeti extends a diversity of some of what makes my favourite listening.
Straight off the bat, the first track “Bury Your Memory” introduces us to a doomy but absolutely thumping path down this curious rabbithole. This gets me a *little* bit excited… queue the winding guitars and wonderfully chaotic drumming.
EXHALE THE PAIN…BURY YOUR MEMORY!”
And then the thrash and rock elements shift in their place and there you have what makes the first track show you exactly what you’re in for.
This EP is uplifting but at the same time, so heavy – i love when music can give you such a different extreme of rush from one side of the spectrum to another. Sludgy, macabre and laced with a supernatural concept, Within The Hollow Earth leaves its identity to be explored and gets better with every listen… and that, my friends, is the beauty of music.
My favourite track is “Funeral Heart” – The vibe that All Hail Yeti offer in this track really gets the listeners’ mood almost empowered by the fast paced yet sludgy, sexy tones. Combined with the diverse vocals that steer the journey through this track, this has me on top of the world this morning… despite the lyrical concept.
“Couldn’t wait to see you go.
You’re a demon with a heart so cold
Banging!!
Within Hollow Earth offers 7 tracks of highly effective mood lifting, headbanging tracks that ends with a short and sweet farewell, however – do not underestimate “The Great Dying”. Harsh vocals, heavy riffs and an abrupt ending leading the listener to wondering what on earth just happened in that last half hour…
A truly fun, unapologetic and ferocious EP to get into. This will be a new one for when I need to be chucked into an uplifting and empowering mood.
