Going back to what made us fall in love with them in the first place, ‘Take What You Want’ sees Def Leppard going back to their roots and showing that they’re still as vital as they’ve ever been.
There’s an urgency here that captures the spirit of the pumping and irresistible hard rock they were making around the time that ‘High And Dry’ came out but tooled up for 2022, that hunger and experience a truly heady mix.
It would be so easy for the quintet to rest on their laurels but that’s never been an option for the band, the bumps on the road weathered and turned into life experiences, the quality and class always there.
The guitars are heavy, the core melodic and that perfect balance between the two is prime Leppard. Throwing in a short section that has echoes of E.L.O. before the scorching solos kick in is a masterstroke and all this adds up to one of the best things they’ve released for years.
With new album ‘Diamond Star Haloes’ on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to rediscover the very thing that made your heart beat faster, the hairs on your arms rise up and that unforgettable rush of loud music. You’ll believe that rock ‘n’ roll can change the world.
