Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM
Best known as the singer for Midlands metalheads Sister Shotgun, Chloe Ozwell has long been a talent that’s turned heads, be it with her uncompromising and distinctive voice or magnetic stage presence.
In ‘Beckoned’ she gets the chance to really shine as a solo artist and this three minute slice of heaven is a long promised step into a new realm.
Don’t be fooled, this rocks but it does so with a sense of melody that eschews pounding rhythms and instead opts to take off into the stratosphere.
Achingly modern and eminently accessible, there’s a real sense of defiance and vulnerability under the strength, a heart battered and bruised but not broken.
Soaring and powerful, this marks a wildly impressive opener for a project that will see Ozwell lauded both with the hard rocking quintet and on her own. It’s going to be a busy year but one thing’s for certain, this is a voice you need to hear.
