Review by Tammy Lomax for MPM
New Jersey American thrash metal band Overkill formed in 1980, vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth and bassist D.D Verni are the only constant members.
Over decades they have been the leaders in producing some of the most unforgettable thrash metal music of all time.
The thrash lords are set to release their twentieth studio album ‘Scorched’ on April 14th via Nuclear Blast Records.
Mixed and engineered by Colin Richardson, Johnny Rodd helped with producing the vocals and Maor Appelbaum sprinkled his magic with the finishing touches. Artist Travis Smith created the astounding work on the album cover.
‘Scorched’ is an old school approach with a modern twist and the teaser single released ‘The Surgeon’ validates this entirely.
‘The Surgeon’ is exactly everything you expect from Overkill, it’s positively slapping and ultimately scorching.
The symbols bash and crash into the bass guitar, which sounds chunky toned and highly salivating.
The pace accelerates at a ridiculous speed, indubitably offering an old style thrash metal vibe which meets a modern zing to it all. That wonderful riff prods you throughout the whole track whilst Ellsworth’s vocals are setting everything on fire, he is consistently blistering.
It’s a peach of a track and I feel the new upcoming album ‘Scorched’ will come out on top especially if it runs on par with this first-class single.
