Review by Rick Eaglestone for MPM
Coinciding with the 15th anniversary of All Hope is Gone, Slipknot make available for the first time their 2009 performance which has become the stuff of legend with “Live at MSG”.
Live at MSG Immediately starts off with a well selected quartet of tracks from their self-titled debut and by the time they get to Vol 3’s “Before I forget” the atmosphere that spills through the speakers is palpable.
There are two more inclusions from Vol.3 before the introduction of new material from All Hope Is Gone “Dead Memories” which before its played vocalist Corey Taylor interacts with crowd in attendance acknowledging the magnitude of MSG but also highlighting the fact that the maggots worldwide had given the band their very first No 1 album.
Continuing with the furious pace the set includes some of my favourites “Left Behind” & “Psychosocial”.
The main set concludes with the duo of “Duality” and “People=Shit” with an encore of the maniacal “Surfacing” and crowd pleaser the anthemic “Spit It Out”
Slipknot have always managed to emanate organised chaos when it comes to live performances yet the magnitude of such a renowned venue such as New York’s Madison Square Garden only seemed to amplify this well together live show from the Iowa 9.
A savage snapshot of the era.
