Following hot on the mighty heels of Constellations, British Blues-Rocking riffmeister Jack J Hutchinson releases Days are Gone: the second impressive single from his upcoming 10-track album, Battles, along with its accompanying video.
Constellations (the first single from Battles) earned airplay from Planet Rock, becoming the third most played track in the station in August. The song was praised for its “Fast-chugging riffs and catchy vocals…” by Classic Rock Magazine, who also called it “game-raising stuff. ”
Days are Gone follows in Constellations’ pathfinding wake, delivering a 3-and-a-half minute nugget of 24-carat catchy, contemporary rock. The track was co-written with producer Josiah Manning (Kris Barras Band, Inglorious). Meanwhile, the video shows the Fedora-wearing rocker giving it his all in a gritty warehouse setting.
Starting from the outset with a powerful, driving riff, Jack’s feeling-filled lead vocals add extra impact and meaning to the track. Jack wrote the riff in Los Angeles last year after he’d been hanging out at the famed Whiskey a Go Go, watching a night of local rock bands.
Steeped in the Sunset Strip vibe, Hutchinson headed back to his hotel room to set about writing his own larger-than-life riff, overlaying it with one of his most melodic choruses to date.
“The song is about resilience in the face of adversity,” Jack explains, “We’ve all got people in our lives that want tear us down and see us fail, but the key is never giving up. We all make mistakes, but it’s about learning from them, moving on and embracing tomorrow.”
This, Jack explains, connects to Battles’ theme: “The title refers to the challenges we all face in our everyday lives. The songs on the album are about taking charge of your situation and focusing on the light at the end of the tunnel.
We may trip and fall, but it’s about how you pick yourself up, dust yourself down and move forwards that is key. The message is that life can be tough, but we are all strong enough to survive in the face of adversity.”
