Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

While the rush of adrenaline of ‘Angry’ was a thrilling first song from ‘Hackney Diamonds’, the Stones have outdone themselves with this absolutely barnstorming monster.

Featuring vocals by Lady Gaga and piano by Stevie Wonder, ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven’ is a huge, emotional and glorious song that you thought no-one does anymore.

Slowly building balladry with a great performance by Mick Jagger, the tension and power rises until the full blown Gospel vocals of Gaga come in and it’s game over at that point.

If you can imagine Sinatra’s band jamming with Aretha Franklin as London’s finest play subtle, but dirty, links throughout, you’ll get the idea about just how good this is.

Arguably the best thing they’ve done in years, this takes their usual high watermark and blows it out of the water. A Stones track to make the angels sing. Magnificent.
