You see there’s this cool four-piece band coming at you from Montreal, Canada I JUST GOTTA LET YOU KNOW about … And that’s THE DAMN TRUTH – Dave Traina (drums/vocals), PY Letellier (bass/vocals), Tom Shemer (lead guitar/vocals) and Lee-la Baum (lead vocals/guitar).
Purveyors of high energy rock ‘n’ roll with more than a hint of psychedelia the band released their debut album ‘Dear In The Headlights’ back in 2012 following it up with sophomore album 2016’s ‘Devilish Folk’. However it was with the release in 2021 of their stunning third album Now or Nowhere that wider recognition ensued.
The nine track album spawned four singles which were widely playlisted on UK radio stations – ‘This Is Who We Are Now’, ‘Tomorrow’, ‘Only Love’ and ‘Lonely’.
I JUST GOTTA LET YOU KNOW is the lead single from the forthcoming follow-up album recorded at ‘The Warehouse’ – Bryan Adam’s studio in Vancouver – with the celebrated Bob Rock (Aerosmith, Metallica, Motley Crue) at the production helm.
Handclaps and acoustic guitar lull you into a false sense of security as they briefly and gently introduce the track before Lee-la’s powerful vocal grabs your attention ‘without a purpose I walk the streets all alone’. The band swiftly ramp the energy level to the max answering the ‘whoa whoa’ cry of Lee-la Baum – who is most certainly not alone.
This track has ‘got a hold on’ you now as the Canadian outfit rapidly rock the joint to the rafters. ‘Even the blind can see what you’re doing to me’ as the earth trembles below our feet to the sheer power of this frenetic quartet.
The combined energy and power of maxed out guitars, bass, drums and that awesome vocal – ‘sends a shiver through your bones’. Like a runaway freight train heading straight at you, but there’s no risk of the foursome careering off the rails when they produce stunning tracks like this.
I Just Gotta Let you Know – The Damn Truth are ‘the dream that makes you scream’.
