Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

Always one of the best hard rock bands out there, Vixen carried the torch lit by bands like Fanny and The Runaways into the Hair Metal days dominated by testosterone fuelled outfits like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and Ratt, often beating the boys at their own game.

Showing that they could rock as hard as anyone out there, brilliant song writing and a great image contributed to their success and whilst theirs has been a rollercoaster ride over the years, this new single shows their claws are as sharp as ever.

With drummer Roxy Petrucci the sole original member, Vixen have injected fresh blood into the band and vocalist Lorraine Lewis, guitarist Britt Lightning and bass player Julia Lage have kicked off this latest chapter of their story with the addictive ‘Red’.

The accompanying video opens with a sweeping view of the infamous Rainbow Bar and Grill on Sunset in Los Angeles, setting the scene for a twisting monster that starts quietly but explodes for the chorus.

This is a high-octane sugar rush of modern glam hard rock that will get under your skin and stay there for days, the huge sound and delicious hook made for playing loud while driving along in an open top car or punching the air in a sweaty, dark club.

Featuring a stinging yet sweet solo from Lightning, ‘Red’ should firmly put Vixen back where they belong, leading the way as one of the best bands around. Made for good times, this supercharged belter really delivers.
