Review by Maria Glover for MPM
Coyote Mad Seeds are a Sheffield band who formed in 2007 and have just released their 3rd album, ‘Nyctophobia ‘From the first listen it is clear that this is a band who value meaningful lyrics, hard driving riffs, and guitar licks and flourishes that would make many envious.
This album ranges in style or influence from the southern infused whiskey guzzling rebel rousing of ‘Extremis’ and ‘Luck Is For Losers’, to a sleazier vocal in classic hard rock track ‘Voices’, by way of a sinister and unnerving (yet surprisingly melodic) ‘Darkness and The Fear’.
This last track is a standout for me with dark, malevolent vocals, a truly formidable riff and excellent musicianship throughout There are a couple of absolute banger anthems on the album, ‘Raise Your Horns’ and ‘No Way’ with catchy lyrics and a screaming guitar solo or two…
‘Wish You Well’ is a change of pace to the rest of the album, slower and a little gentler, and very lyrically led – a great deal of thought has gone into these tracks and it pays off The chorus of ‘Jaded Son’ is pervasive and irrepressible and it is impossible to get it out of your head.
And this is a band who are well rounded and put as much effort into the music as the lyrics A few surprises along the way, and a song in ‘Rabbit Hole’ that really would make anyone afraid of the dark! A great album from a hard working and reliable band who get better and better
