Review by Tammy Lomax for MPM
American thrash band Exhorder have recently announced the details of their 4th upcoming album ‘Defectum Omnium’ which is due for release on the 8th March via Nuclear Blast Records.
‘Defectum Omnium’ follows their 2019 album release ‘Mourn The Southern Skies’ and is a collective effort in songwriting. It is self produced and the album cover artwork was created by Travis Smith.
Exhorder has been on quite a journey since ‘Mourn The Southern Skies’. Line up changes and the pressures of the lockdown created many hurdles which they initially struggled to overcome. It goes to show that perseverance and determination will prevail in the end though.
Featuring 12 tracks, ‘Defectum Omnium’ displays a familiar sound to their early days. It has been crafted with care and Exhorder is really excited about getting this out to the world.
They have recently released a new track “Year Of The Goat” alongside a music video which was directed by Brian Thorburn and produced by Threshold Studios.
I totally appreciate their efforts in the delivery of this single release, it makes you want to punch kick the air with force. The overall structure is walloping, it’s full of speed, aggression and holds some serious attitude. It’s everything you expect and more.
It specifically takes me back to the earlier days of thrash metal. The riffs are pouring out one after the other, they are popping out like hotcakes. The bass guitar feels very potent and in all respects, it’s so refreshing to hear this style of thrash barge through the doors of 2024.
