Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

The love affair that the UK has with Robert Jon & The Wreck is seemingly a mutual thing, solidified by the outfit racking up the airmiles with constant visits to tour these shores.

Given the sky-high quality of the material they play and the obvious bonhomie both onstage and off, it would be impossible not to fall for one of the most thrilling outfits on the circuit. Soaked in a blue collar ethos and throwing in touches of Southern Rock voodoo, the quintet from California’s Orange County bring a West Coast sensibility to their irresistible storytelling, their sound like the best bar band in the world but capable of painting widescreen panoramas.

Red Moon Rising’ is a shimmering Southern Gothic shuffle, Robert Jon Burrison’s distinct vocals full of a treacly warmth peppered with grit as the rest of the band lay down a big slice of groove.

Full of mystery and promise, this woozy rocker is spiked with psychedelia but still retains a bright warmth that will touch your soul. Robert Jon & The Wreck are giants and the world is a better place for their colossal presence.
