With roots established in the mid 90’s but only recently resurrected Christ Denied – Featuring members of Avulsed and Infected Flesh look to reign down some unholy fire with third album Christopsy.
The album’s openerScream Bloody Blasphemy immediately conjures up images of vile hatred from its maniacal preacher style into straight into its bludgeoning delivery with a mix of death/grind vocals and as this flies into Fake Deity it already feels like blood has been well and truly spilt.
A Blinding Light again incorporates a blasphemous narrative in its very construction and the samples used really blend in well the brutal style given the subject matter and the overall aesthetic of the band themselves with Take, Eat, This Is My Body feeling like albums highlight track in terms ofstructure.
Moving onto Why Call Him God easily using the albums best placed sample and alongside that Christopsy’s heaviest track. This is followed byVoracious Disciples and to complete the mid-section unholy trinity is Starving Acolytes which although still has fierce does also have a subtle brooding element to it.
Oozing Blood Nails easily contains my favourite sample of the entire album and has some sharp drum patterns which overspill into Liar’s Meat Aftertaste well.
A Cover of Cryptopsy’s Mutant Christ closes the album to a fanatical fanfare which is done with the bands spin but not necessarily delivered as effectively – right choice name wise but I would have liked a concluding original track.
Overall, Christopsy is a natural progression from the previous releases and although unrelenting it was missing some of the degrading depth that earlier efforts managed to capture.
