Known for his towering vocals and preacher-like presence coupled with a lyrical quest for simplicity and truth, the singer is one of the breakthrough vocalists of the last decade.
Buchanan is as much at home singing with The BeeGees’ Barry Gibb or David Crosby, The Bloody Beetroots or Brandi Carlile and writing soundtracks with his friend Dave Cobb as he is fronting one of the top American rock bands of today.
Jay’s swaggering style yet humble approach has won him fans the world over with Rival Sons, but anyone who has met him knows that Jay has always been a singer-songwriter at heart, that he is often uncomfortable with the bombastic rockstar role and that Jay Buchanan, the singer-songwriter would one day return…
“Ever since I’ve been coming to the UK and Europe people have asked me about my solo material and I haven’t had much to say other than… “someday.
This last year I’ve been writing what will be my first solo record since the band (RS) took off and that’s been a cathartic journey all its own. I’ve still got a bit to go to complete the collection but my friends won’t get off my back about playing a UK show so here we are. I’m excited… and terrified at the same time and it feels good. Feels right.
Jay will play his first solo London show in an intimate setting at Stereo Covent Garden
https://www.stereocoventgarden.com/ with The Holy Spirits.
Commenting on the line up, Jay states: “Holy Spirits? It’s raw nerve music. Big feelings music. I like the idea of a revolving cast as a way to promote collaboration and broaden interpretation. I’ve thrown together bands a few times in the US & Mexico and I just love the on-your-heels element of it.”
This London debut is bound to be something special, with some fans having waited over well over a decade for Jay to make a solo appearance playing his own material. Jay continues: “The show will be comprised of unreleased material and maybe a cover or two. A lot of songs from my unreleased album Locust & Wild Honey will be in the mix.”
The fabulously beautiful record Locust & Wild Honey includes songs such as Internal Dialogue, Roll With Me and Feel Better which you can watch here
Jay Buchanan is seemingly able to emote pain, project honesty and belt out ear-piercing notes all at once.” – Music Radar
