Stood amidst the Bloodstock crowd, this summer, during the announcement of the first wave of bands for next year’s festival was electric to say the least. Each band received rapturously and then a sudden shift upwards upon the announcement of one band. That band? Lacuna Coil, not an outfit, until that moment, that had I had crossed paths with. That reception caught my attention, and a mental note was made to discover the band behind the loud cheer.
Lacuna Coil, a band of comings together. A gap in information wound tightly in a spiral form, a band that has in the course of some 30 years woven a sonic presence. Never entirely retaining what has preceded, consistently evolving and undergoing a sensual morphing of their despatch. One moment a sonic rage, the next a gentle ethereal symphony.
At the very core of this are co-founders Andrea Ferro and Marco Coti Zelati along with Cristina Scabbia who joined a couple of years after formation. This trio have navigated a course through nine studio albums and a ‘tribute’ 20th anniversary recording of their breakthrough album ‘Comalies’ to achieve a status of renown.
Ahead of their UK tour, their first since 2019, I get the opportunity to chat with the very affable Andrea Ferro on a range of subjects. Looking forward to their tour Ferro gives plans of their forthcoming singles – including the very imminent ‘Oxygen’ – along with a tentative mention of an album in 2025. It’s a safe bet that Lacuna Coil can’t wait to ‘reconnect’ with their UK fan base and also savour the delights of a ‘full breakfast’!
