Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

Shimmering and insistent, wrapping you in another time and place where life is full of late summer sun and meadows that stretch out to the horizon, this latest single from The Blackheart Orchestra is a beautiful work of art from the northern duo.

With the ethereal vocals of Chrissy Mostyn floating above the cascading rhythms, the whole brings in subtle hues before exploding into a kaleidoscope of colours that radiate from the speakers and straight into synapses.

With a subtle use of dynamics that seem at once so fragile yet strong as steel, ‘Bloodlines’ somehow manages to bring together the feel of all four seasons, the evocation of nostalgia and a hope that’s starting to push its light through the darkness.

Along with fellow multi-instrumentalist Rick Pilkington, what’s created here is another slice of life enhancing pastoral prog and with a new album on its way from them, the world is a brighter, better place. We all need something beautiful in our lives and this ticks all the boxes.

The Blackheart Orchestra have yet again created music to touch hearts and souls and that’s a wonderful thing. Sublime.
