Review by Rob Broom for MPM
King Krakens debut album was one of the highlights of 2023 and since then the band having been working hard both gigging and building their social media presence.
Sandwiched between all that activity they found time to record a new album called ‘March Of The Gods’ (due April 2025).
Along with several high profile gigs towards the end of 2024 – including a set at Bloodstock – King Kraken will be back on the road in 2025 and will open the Stonedead 2025 festival lineup!
Unsurprisingly perhaps, radio and other mediums are now taking notice of the band and so ‘Beserker’ is the second release from that forthcoming new album, following ‘Chainsaw Saviour’ a few weeks ago.
The momentum created by all that buzz and excitement carries across into these new recordings and there is an obvious and distinct progression forward from the first album. King Kraken are definitely laying down a marker for the future and you would do well to take note.
After a brief brooding opening, ‘Beserker’ takes off with a grinding, twisting riff and pounding drums. The vocals are gutsy and powerful and there is some nifty (almost Hendrix like) guitar work in the solo to add some texture.
As the accompanying video highlights, the song itself is about the Viking age and the ‘beserker’ cult, warriors who were able to work themselves into a frenzy before battle commenced. Frenzied is probably what will happen to the audience when this gets played live and the crowd sing along with the chorus!
King Kraken are not for the faint of heart, (they wear theirs firmly on their sleeves) this is modern powerful metal that pays homage to the greats of the past. The band have successfully captured, bottled (like their own branded chilli sauce!) and delivered a full on slab of their trademark fury with these first two releases.
Based on what I am hearing so far, ‘March Of The Gods’ could well be the album of 2025, so don’t delay, go preorder your copy now from the bands website and be part of something truly monstrous!
