Swedish stoner rock legends Astroqueen have officially launched back into orbit with their long-lost heavy fuzz sound! Just recently, they premiered the video for “Turbin Turbine” over at great The Obelisk, a track taken from their upcoming EP Rufus Rising — out May 2nd via Majestic Mountain Records.
Back in 2003, hot off the release of their now-classic album Into Submission, Astroqueen entered the studio with legendary producer Andy La Rocque to record a 3-track demo. While two of those tracks surfaced on indie compilations, the follow-up album never really materialized.
“Life took us in different directions, and the recorded tracks were left to collect dust,” says drummer Johan Borgede.
Fast forward two decades, and Astroqueen is ready to make noise again.
“When we started working on new material, we realized those demo tracks were too good to stay forgotten,” adds guitarist/vocalist Daniel Änghede. “The riffs still had the fire — they just needed a sonic facelift.”
New guitar tracks were laid down, and the band reunited with Andy La Rocque, this time at his Sonic Train Studios, to give the songs the mix they always deserved.
The result is Rufus Rising — Astroqueen at their rawest, fuzziest, and most thunderous. The EP is a heady blend of past and present, resurrecting unreleased material with a fresh and fiery attitude. And yes, Astroqueen is already working on more new material.
