Häxan return with an EP follow up to their debut album, `White Noise’. The band, Sam Bolderson (vocals and guitar), Harriet Wadeson (bass guitar) and Jess Hartley (drums) enlisted Romesh Dodangoda, known for his work with Motorhead and Bullet For My Valentine to produce the EP.

Title track, `Death Of Me’ is a powerhouse of a track as the guitars assault your ears with a wall of metal riffery and then Bolderson’s vocal soothes whilst maintaining an air of menace with her delivery. `Sirens’ increases the pace and has the same kind of punchy drum and bass rhythm that can be found on Motorheads `Ace Of Spades’. A delicious helping of distorted guitar provides a perfect foundation for Bolderson’s vocal as she takes no prisoners and hits some seriously meaty notes on this energetic track.

`Thirteenth Hour’ sees Wadeson’s bass punctuate the start of this epic track. The guitar riff is intense, but its Bolderson’s vocal that is the star of this song. The sheer power, clarity and quality of her vocal here is stunning. `Burn Alive’ launches at breakneck speed as the chanting vocal lays down the tale of burning witches. This is a glorious, full tilt metal track that conjures up a true feel of evil being relayed in the track.

We end with `Collide’ which is a slower track but is still equally as gritty and mighty as the other tracks on this EP. The pauses mid song adds an anticipation that is satisfied as the second half of the track kicks up a gear but end all too soon.

There is no doubt that Häxan have grown musically in leaps and bounds since their debut release. The tracks on this EP are darker, more metal and bolder in all respects. Bolderson’s vocal is a force to be reckoned with here as are the sonically wonderful guitar parts. They have managed to capture the intensity and drama that they put across so well live. Their constant touring and working with some big names have no doubt paid off.

Heres to lots more from these gals very soon!
