Review by Phil Rozier for MPM
Music reviews often come with some sort of pre amble, a kind of scene setting if you will. Whether for effect, reader engagement or pure self-indulgence from the writer, there are many reasons that reviews are perhaps stretched out, watered down, elaborated or elongated.
I’ve been guilty of doing the above myself, especially if the band or music in question is perhaps themed or obviously targeted at a key audience. I’ve often felt the need to introduce the history of the band or perhaps refer the reader to a memorable event involving said band, in order to prepare the eager music fan for what potentially is to come.
Asomvel do not need that kind of introduction. If you are regular listener of rock n roll, and a frequent visitor to Metal Planet Music, you’ll without doubt, love this new track ‘Light ‘em Up’
Fast. Loud. To the point. Asomvel sound, look, and are every bit as much rock and roll as the influences that inspired them. An intense banger of a tune, with thundering bass, and guitar riffs that would feel just at home in Thin Lizzy, Motorhead or Airbourne.
Speaking of Airbourne, Asomvel recently belted out this new track on the recent UK tour with the Aussie headbangers. It’s just over 3 minutes of pure heavy rock, ‘out of control, fire in the hole’; it goes down like it’s been a staple in the rock world since the 80’s.

Some music reviews also try to draw clever conclusions, and witty endings to bring the reader to a positive high, encouraging streams to be made, enjoyment to be had, and money to be spent. I fear I lack that whit, or indeed any commercial incentive to fulfil the brief. So I’ll just conclude by saying this head banging, organ shaking, goose bump creating, hard rocking noise of a track is exactly what I wanted to listen to today. And tomorrow. And for weeks to come.

Thanks Asomvel, you’ve smashed it out the park. I’ll see you in London in September.
