Review by Richard Henry for MPM

Thats a mouthful of a title, this is a rarity, I have never heard of these guys before and I have no idea what they sound like, so strap in and let’s see what we have here!

Blueprints for Idol Genocide

Now that is as deathcore an intro to a song as you are going to hear, murderously slow then a break for a spoken word part and the blast beats rain in, production wise it reminds me of Cryptopsy, nice mix of vocals and a slab of riffing, great tempo changes as well, its brutally heavy, then the middle goes from pure death metal to a more Chelsea Grin sort of riff and vocal part, really interesting mix, it’s totally throwing me, you get into one part of the song and then it completely changes feel, the drumming is insane, great opener, and if you love Chelsea Grin crossed with 00’s era Cryptopsy you’ll love this

Inverted Spear of Heaven

Almost a hardcore style opening riff to this, pure D beat insanity, brutal from the offset, then same as the last song, the brakes come on and you change to a more mid-tempo sort of feel, grinding double bass, almost like a Benighted sort of feel in the vocal delivery and the changes in feel on this one, about a min and a half in there is a lovely half time section then builds back up into blasts again before a full stop and then a proper beatdown sort of section, another slamming track

The Portal

A filtered scream comes in to start this and a then a really crawling double bass groove with a slab of a riff over the top, just ominous and slow, first solo comes in on this one, again it’s so all over the place in feels, switching from blast beat sections that are as heavy as you want straight into ta really groovy section, gravity blasts and absolute slam vocals come in on this one, this one for the most part is a total blast of deathcore, but more old school early Lorna/Chelsea Grin etc., full of groove though, that’s the thing i have noticed so far, take the blast parts everything else flows really well.

Blackwave II

Another intro comes in and then like the last one, straight in with the blast beats, love the changes in the blast beats, gravity to standard and then in with a half time section, with a lovely  riff, then the break and the riff is pure Suffocation in feel and the blasts start to rain down, the vocals just switch from highs to low in a relentless assault, syncopated section with the fast kicks come in next, like a proper tech death section, I think sometimes with this music you need some variation apart from riff after riff and this song sort of suffers from that, it’s just variations of the same thing.

Endless Agonal Devotion

They love an intro, that’s an absolute banger of a riff there, love the twin vocals on the verse part, then you get a real slam part that will absolutely light up a pit, nice riff with harmonics, sort of reminds me of Machine Head, oh that’s a nice transition into an almost hardcore Pyrexia sort of feel, definitely that vibe, even the next part has a real bouncy in the pit sort of feel to it, then boom your back into the blasts again, then its slows way down in the middle, that’s a rotten section there, that will 100% have people killing each other in the pits, absolute banger of a track!

Apocalypse Through Lysergic Possession

Did I just skip to Rings of Saturn, tapping, gravity blasts are kicking this one off, yeah, this one reminds me of those guys and maybe Origin, its full-on tech, then slams right into a slow as anything breakdown, lovely change in feel, it’s like getting slapped round the mouth with a brick, then change again into blasts, this song twists and turns all the time and your head is left spinning listening to it all, some nice bits in the middle and then the end sort of death core rides it out, great track!

I won’t be There to Watch you Go

That is a nasty riff to start this short one, and then the double kicks fly over the top of it, again it’s a sort of hardcore Napalm sort of feel on this one, think them crossed with Nasum, just as i say that the deathcore elements come in with a screeching riff and then slow breakdown feel as the song ends, short and to the point!

Filleted and F**cked

Another movie style intro to this one, the then that riff that comes in is pure Cryptopsy in feel until the vocals change and the gravity blasts hit, but again just as you think you know what you’re getting it changes right again with a stinking riff and the double kicks, vocals are all over the place from lows to highs, it’s the frantic pace and time changes seem to be the thing with these guys, I am not a fan of those low gutturals on their own, I think unless your Will Ramos it’s been sort of done to death, musically its savage, I just think the vocals could do with a change up, good track!

God is Busy

Thats a nasty riff to kick this off, slow and slower, the drums flail and crash in around it, i love that feel, that’s proper circle pit material right there, nice part right there after the verse, reminds me of Thy Art is Murder, that slow grind with the heavy vocal over it, then boom, changes and into the blasts again, about 2 and a bit mins in there is a lovely change in feel and it slows down again to just get violent with the vocal and the guitar just grinds along, the drummer deserves a pay rise, he is flying, not sure about sticking that long of sample in near the end, you think the song is over and then they come back in again and slowly bring the song to an end!

Still Water Salvation

Little hit of the bell and boom, we are back in with a sludgy riff peppered with the double bass alongside it, then a dizzying riff comes in and the blasts slap in again, the vocals are harsh as anything, then a lovely transition into a half time feel, then it goes half time on that and brings in the proper low vocals, nice changes in that entire section, then it picks right up again like the first verse, the middle again walks right into full on deathcore, that riff you know what you’re getting, again you’re getting through styles at some rate that sometimes it’s hard to latch onto a bit because it changes so quickly, that’s sort of the only issue so far with these guys.

 Neuro++Terror

Two on the snare and a disgusting bass sound then bang we are in, there is no letup, flying blasts and double kicks, then a guitar break and the gutturals start in with this mental guitar riff, but again you are no sooner into that than your slow down and then down again in to the more deathcore territory, that’s Cryptopsy guitar sound there before the slow riff with the flying double kicks comes in, it’s a flurry of ideas and parts before you sort of get a reprieve as the song slows to the way out!

7.5 out of 10

It’s a good album, there is nothing to really dislike, I would say the parts changing so much it’s hard to latch onto the ideas when you’re listening to it, you get one part and its literally changed by the time you get into it. Some fantastic playing on there and the drummer is awesome, if you like Chelsea Grin, Whitechapel crossed with Cryptopsy, Nasum and a hint of Napalm then give these guys a go!

SALVATION LAUGHS IN THE FACE OF A GRIEVING MOTHER. The album arrives July 25 via SharpTone Records and is available for pre-order here.
