Review by Phil Rozier for MPM

Florence Black have absolutely nailed it with their latest single, Coloured In. I’ve been following these guys since they supported Massive Wagons (what a night that was), and then again at Maid of Stone Festival this year, where they tore up the stage with that thunderous energy and tight musicianship. So when I saw the new video drop, I was excited to give it a click.

The official video for “Coloured In” is a gritty, visually arresting piece that mirrors the song’s emotional punch. Directed by Jack Collin and edited by frontman Tristan Thomas himself, it’s got this raw, almost cinematic feel, like you’re watching the band channel every ounce of frustration and fire into the lens. The lighting and pacing build tension beautifully, and the close-up shots of Tristan’s vocals are intense. You can really feel the push-pull between aggression and vulnerability.

Musically, Coloured In is classic Florence Black, but evolved. There’s that signature vocal snarl from Tristan, which hits like a freight train, but it’s balanced with melodic sections that feel almost reflective. The chorus is anthemic without being over-polished, and the guitar work is banging.  It’s heavy, but not chaotic, structured in a way that lets the emotion breathe. The track’s dynamic shifts are what make it so compelling. It’s like they’re painting with distortion and melody at the same time.  Think the Mona Lisa and The Scream blended together (assuming you don’t think The Scream is actually Spaniel dog  hahaha, check it out online)

These guys started out in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. From local gigs to supporting big names and now taking major slots at festivals, their rise has been anything but quiet. What sets Florence Black apart is their ability to blend hard rock grit with moments of real introspection. They’re not just loud, they’re layered. And fans are catching on. Their following is growing fast, and with releases like Coloured In, it’s easy to see why.

If Coloured In is any indication of what’s coming next, I’m all in. These guys are carving out a space that’s both fierce and thoughtful.  I’m excited to see them headline their own tour in Sept in the UK.  Concorde 2 here we come!
