The Little Angels wayward son returns with a very personal conclusion to the Look Out Series and proves the incredible songwriting ability of the man.
After an introduction from Toby we jump into track two in “(Don’t Wanna Be a) Rock n Roll Star” and this tongue in cheek number has a dig at the music scene. This has a very old feel to it, a rockerbilly feel almost so hit that dance floor folks.
Next we have “Some People are Trash” and aint that a fact. This has a punk attitude mixed with a solid Rock backbone. I wonder if this is still aimed at the music business but I would probably take a bet that this is aimed wholeheartedly at the internet trolls out there…does anyone remember life before them?
“Strong Enough” has that punk feel again. This definitely jumps back to the 70s and there is definitely a hint of a movie soundtrack back from those days…no, not Grease but you get my drift.
“Falling in Love is Harder (Than You Could Ever Prepare Your Heart For) is a stunning ballad. A piano based song that speaks of true lifelong love, so much so it looks to the future of that relationship. A stunning number and as Toby states, one of the best songs he has ever written.
The tempo kicks into gear on “Nothing to See Here”. This is a real catchy number that rocks from start to finish before moving onto the up beat start on “Before I Break”. The song captures the being on the edge from the lyrics as everything from words to music is frenzied and almost off kilter.
Final track “Creeping Up Slowly” hits on what was possibly the best from Little Angels, just Toby and an acoustic guitar. I always loved those songs and this one really slipped into my heart very quickly. Another slice of brilliance.
Look Vol 2, added to Vol 1 shows just what an insane talent Toby is. He is an amazing musician, songwriter and singer. This is an eclectic collection but one that earns its place in Toby’s impressive catalogue.
