Review by Paul Sabin for MPM
Does Doro ever sleep? as we see yet another release from the German metal queen. `Warriors Of The Sea’ follows hot on the heels of her 2024 EP release where she sang a duet with Rob Halford. This time we are treated to five new studio tracks and five live tracks lifted from here 20024/25 tour.
We kick off with the waves crashing and choral ahhs as `Warriors Of The Sea’ smashes in. Doro’s unmistakable vocal breathes around the riffing guitars as they pound out this anthemic track. This is one of those songs that will work so well live with an audience chanting the mighty chorus. Doro takes on Australia’s finest as she covers ACDC’s `Touch Too Much.’ Her gritty tone fits this track like a glove and hits you straight between the eyes.
Originally written for the Wildstyle Tattoo Messe, Doro goes all post-apocalyptic punk with `Tattooed Angels’ as the grungy beat resounds through the track and Doro’s vocal rides like lightning through a storm. `Horns Up High’ combines Nordic chants with fluty guitars and an overall filthy riff on top of which the metal queen relays a toast to our heroes and warriors with “Horns Up High.”
`Seelied’ oozes class as this piano led track shows a gentler side of Doro as she performs this emotional ballad filled with crystalline tones and passion. `Children Of The Dawn’ ushers in the first live track as melodic guitars and a catchy chorus combine to make an epic track.
`Fire In The Sky’ ups the ante as the fast-paced drums set the scene for piledriving metal guitars and Doro doing what she does best. This adrenaline fuelled track captures the excitement of Doro live perfectly. The crowd goes crazy as the first notes of `Revenge’ ring out as the band launch into this rollercoaster of a track. Lightning-fast guitar licks vie for the spotlight as Germany’s finest screams out the lyrics and drives the audience into a frenzy.
The tempo drops as `Above The Ashes’ kicks in with its meaty chug. The sheer power that comes from Doro as she sings this track is quite simply amazing. Every word is clear with little or no grit but absolutely in your face demanding attention. We finish as any good Doro gig should – `Raise Your Fist In The Air.’ With energy levels at 110% you can just picture the whole crowd bouncing and of course, punching the air as they do so. There’s no such thing as a quiet, low key, low energy Doro concert! This gal hits the target every time and leaves the audience wanting more.

What a way to fill a gap between full blown studio albums! I defy anyone to find fault with this release, apart from wanting more of the same!! Long live this metal goddess.
