Known for their electrifying live performances and groove-laden indie anthems, Creeping Jean deliver more of their gritty, anthemic psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll this month with a new single titled “Supercharger” out today — a no-nonsense track that signals a sharper and leaner evolution in the band’s sound.

Raw, driving and unapologetic, “Supercharger” captures a band pushing forward under pressure. Big riffs, relentless groove and a sense of urgency that mirrors the realities facing independent artists right now.

The release lands as the band kick off their Supercharger Tour tonight, opening with a headline show at Camden Assembly as part of Independent Venue Week.

Frontman Olly Tooze explains: “Supercharger” is about how as a country the cost just keeps rising and rising. We are being supercharged. Everything is thrown back on the public, on the high street, on the small business, on the independent venues. We wanted a track that has a drive and an urgency that reflects the difficulties of modern day living hence the raucous guitars, driving bass and thumping drums. We wanted some lyrics that transcend how we feel. It feels like they always win. That the rich get richer while everything else falls apart. The current system is broken and things need to change. The struggles are real and maybe it’s getting too expensive to chase dreams when everything is supercharged.”

Recent comments from fellow rockers Witch Fever highlighted the stark reality of playing rock music in 2026 — and Creeping Jean feel that bite keenly. A truly DIY band, they’ve sold old Converse to fund records, recorded releases inside their own vintage clothing store to cut costs, and hustled every which way imaginable to keep making music. But as the cost of living rises and touring becomes increasingly unviable even at higher levels, the question looms large: if arena tours aren’t “making it”, then what is?

Creeping Jean may not be playing arenas — yet — but their commitment to “making it” happen is still as intense as ever, despite the rising costs and the increasingly negative space musicians find themselves in.

“Supercharger” was recorded at The Barn, East Sussex and produced and engineered by Dan Crook. Always keen to keep productive, Creeping Jean also recently released a live EP last month also recorded at The Barn, titled “Live: Business At The Barn” which was filmed and recorded live and is available on all streaming services and YouTube. The live EP featured a cover of Donna Summer’s disco hit “I Feel Love”

Speaking on the new single “Supercharger”, drummer Nick Buttermilk explains:

“Supercharger exists in the tension of the present. Everything costs more, the future is thinner, and the distance between wealth and survival keeps getting wider.

The artwork reflects that idea: flowers placed in a petrol canister, photographed as they slowly fade. For a moment they still appear alive, but growth is impossible. It’s a reflection of where we’re at as a society — where beauty survives briefly, but nothing is allowed to truly flourish. Always surrounded by something that slowly drains the life out of it.”

Creeping Jean are the fast-rising Brighton indie-rock force bringing their fuzz-heavy, hook-stacked sound to a new generation of young, hip music lovers up and down the country. An international gang who’ve made their homes in Brighton, Sheffield and London, the band released their second album Business Is Dead in 2024 to rave reviews, doubling-down last year with the Record Store Day limited-edition Clothes Shop 7-inch followed by Live: Business At The Barn at the end of 2025. They’ve toured with Rival Sons, The Sheepdogs and These Wicked Rivers, shared stages with Miles Kane and Tom Rowley (Arctic Monkeys), and recently set the 100 Club alight at a sold-out show that even drew Jimmy Page into the crowd. Page praised the band’s energy and chemistry — a milestone moment for the young quintet.
