The Mexican sisters of metal are back with a bang on album number five and this release goes to prove exactly why the trio are the band on everyone’s lips.
This band is going through accolades like a tick list to stardom. The award ceremonies, the tours and the play lists are piling up and now the hugely successful “Keep Me Fed” is being placed in the been there, done that category so here we are with “Everything’s Falling”. 12 tracks that cover so many bases and genres that it will hold something for everyone.
Opening track “Ritual” kicks off like an industrial hit before sliding back into a symphonic masterpiece. It is full of urgency, off kilter beats and kicks the album off very strongly.
I am not sure there is such a thing as a “Perfect Daughter” and having two I can testify to that, it is usually the imperfections you love the most but these girls certainly know how to bring perfection to a track. This fuzzy guitar driven monster with poppy vocals is a winner.
The title track is up next and it takes on that grunge depression feel with a sense of lonliness before it rips up the old checkered shirt like the Hulk bursting out of his purple pants. The chorus begs for your attention with its pure metal aggression.
I am glad I have never asked the question “Why Do You Like it When I Cry” but if I did I would be steering clear. This song is full of humanity, doubt and the song follows those themes as it bounces around like the answers to that question in your head.
“Bite My Tongue” starts like a 90’s hip hop track. This is another song looking for answers and this is another departure to the bands sound and they are stretching their own boundaries with outstanding results.
Is that a cowbell on “Kill or Be Killed”? Well hell yeah, you know this is going to be a winner. The lyrics are spat out, the guitar is played through a muddy puddle and the drums hold the whole thing together. This is a beautiful departure.
The Latino is let loose on “Ego” as the native tongue comes forth and with it the fire. This is that feeling that you have when you hear a Rammstein track come on. It sounds like it was meant to sound and the shrieks and crazy guitars break this track out above the other numbers. I want a physical copy of this just so I know what to shout when I hear it live.
The bass lines from Alejandra are stunning on “Bloodsport”. It is the backbone of the song and drives it forward like a piledriver.
Things go dreamy on “Break”. It sounds like a throwaway Pop track from the 2000’s before it bares its teeth and I can assure you its bite is dangerous as is the track “Bruises”. There is no easy out of the blocks on this one. It grabs your attention from the off, lulls you into a sense of peace and then hits you with the knocks that leaves those bruises.
Look at that, bands can actually go beyond 10 tracks on an album so say hello to “Waste Your Time” and this is no filler. This is for the Haelstorm crowd. Good crunchy Rock that makes you feel good and just makes life that bit better.
The ladies want to leave you with something special on final track “Kerosene”. It kicks like that whump before you add a flame to the flammable. The ripple tears through the song just like the bass and drums…a constant barrage of brutality and beauty.
The Velez sisters have once again produced the goods. “Everything’s Falling” is the same, it is different and it has so many textures it will bring you back again and again. This band has found a groove that so many people can fall into but the only falling they will be doing is upwards
